Problem[]

I notice that a variety of common animals (cats, caterpillars, dogs, etc) are part of this Category:Creatures. The problem with this is we have the three distinctive Beast/Being/Spirit as the magical subcategories, but these categories are alongside stuff like the Category:Cat. This is mismatched, if anything we should have something like Category:Real animals and put it under Category:Zoology or Category:Real world.

Another issue is that the creature category is a subcategory of magizoology, itself a cross of 'branches of magic' and 'zoology'. A lot of the creatures here aren't magical unless they're used as ingrediants in a potion or they're transformed into familiars or something. The whole Category:Zoology seems like a farce because it really serves nothing but as an intermediary category to place Magizoology into Biology, why do we even have it if it's currently indistinguishable?

If magizoology is something distinct from zoology then it would pertain just to magical creatures and we'd put non-magical ones in just zoology. If it's not distinct then we wouldn't need a magizoology category at all because ALL animals (and thus all zoology) is inherantly magical anyway and magizoology would be a term used for the scientific analysis of magical aspects of animals. Subcategory ideas[]

I think it would be cool if we could bounce these around based on what a lot of these have in common so it's not a huge list. For example, a Category:Birds would be good, that way we could include the Cockatrice, Eagle, the Owl category, tropical bird, unidentified bell jar and unidentified blue bird. I think Category:Insects would work since we have the Aqua Maggot, Caterpillar, Flesh Slug, Giant Grub, Lace fly, leech, and wood lice. Heck being vague and doing 'bugs' would allow us to include spiders and tarantulas. One for reptiles might also be good.

It's important to reach a choice before doing major changes since it involves individually editing the pages to change the categories, I was wondering if anyone had some kinda bot that could do that easier? Ty 08:17, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

Subcategories[]

Many of the pages in this category should be moved into subcategories, such as Cats, Insects or Birds. Having 161 pages directly in the category is unnecessary clutter. Moving pages into subcategories would look prettier.Hallj36 02:39, May 29, 2012 (UTC)

Creature Category Tags[]

I believe that pages that belong to animals should remain under the creature category since they are creatures. It seems more organized to have all creatrues under one category than to have them spread out all over the place.

And I agree with the action that User:Hallj36 was attempting to take. If we're going to have articles in both this and the subcategories, then there's no reason for those subcategories to exist. Since the subcategories do and should exist, the only articles that should be in this category are those for which there is no appropriate subcategory for. After all, by your logic, every spell should be in Category:Spells, and that's clearly not the case: charms are in Category:Charms, curses in Category:Curses, etc. (Actually, now that I look at it, that category needs a bit of the same treatment...) -- 1337star (Drop me a line!) 23:30, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
All of the appropriate pages should at least be added to the List of Creatures before they're moved.

1337star is correct. The policy for categories is:

Articles placed in categories should not also be placed in that category's parent category; for example, articles in Category:Hufflepuffs should not also be placed in Category:Students.

Animals/Creatures in the wizarding money[]

I'd like to know which animals/creatures are minted in each of the three Harry Potter series coins? Andre G. Dias (talk) 04:30, April 29, 2015 (Brazil)
