Pansy Parkinson is a girl in Harry's year, sorted into Slytherin House. Described as 'pug-faced' she appears in the books at the head of a gang of girls and is notable for her sarcastic and cutting remarks aimed cunningly at other characters. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Pansy serves as one of the prime sources for Rita Skeeter and the misinformation that she supplies to the journalist causes trouble for Hagrid. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Pansy becomes an eager member of the Inquisitorial Squad established by Dolores Umbridge to maintain control at Hogwarts by rooting out those who would challenge Professor Umbridge's brutal administration.

None of Pansy's Slytherin girlfriends are ever specifically identified, as Pansy seems to be able to do all of the talking for them. Presumably they include Millicent Bulstrode, another Slytherin girl in Harry Potter's year. As the feminine leader of the Slytherins, it is not surprising that she and Draco Malfoy attend the Yule Ball together in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. However, as of the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince there is still no indication that she has either family or personal links to the Death Eaters, nor that she is an actual supporter of Voldemort.

Pansy is a minor character in the overall scheme of the books, but in her ability to humiliate others she typifies the female bully all too familiar to anyone who has passed through school.
